Most Collin County wells draw from the downdip Trinity — the Paluxy and Twin Mountains sands — and, in places, the shallower Woodbine. Typical depth runs about 500 to 1,200+ feet depending on exactly where you are, so we pull TWDB records and any old log before drilling.
Trinity water here is hard with common iron. The Woodbine, though, is the one to watch on the east side of the county: USGS sampling found that about 61% of Woodbine wells exceed EPA secondary limits for iron and sulfate, which shows up as heavy staining and a metallic or sulfur taste. All of it is treatable — we test first and size treatment to the actual water.
The 2021 freeze cracked wellheads across Collin County, so insulation and heat tape are standard on our work, and shallow wells can draw down in a dry late summer — usually a pump-depth fix rather than a new well.
